Wildlife in Ascot Update - Activities in May & June

These recent changes in temperature are catching me out and I wonder how our local wildlife is coping. The nesting birds are certainly keen on the fat balls and suet pellets at present. There has been very little rain for a couple of weeks so please keep topping up the water for wildlife in your gardens.

Hopefully the promised warmer weather will make bat survey walks the pleasant evening strolls that they are meant to be!

Over the next month we are keen to hear of your sightings and observations as usual but in particular let us know if you hear a cuckoo, see a house martin, a swift or a stag beetle in our local area. Please let us know via iRecord (website or app), our Facebook Group or by email to us.

We are also looking for volunteers to help at our stand at Silwood College on the afternoon of Tuesday 29th July. If you could lend a hand for an hour or more please get in touch.

We have been approached by the local Silver Studded Blue butterfly crew to help record this pretty butterfly. Please look out for them especially on heathland, take a photo and record on the iRecord butterflies app. As our contact says ” it would be great if they could record every butterfly they see everywhere!”. Once a year the SSB crew join up with Surrey Wildlife Trust and the MOD to survey the live firing range at Barossa (in Berkshire). This is a great opportunity to see an area that the public are normally excluded from and there will be people there who can teach how to identify the SSB. This year’s survey is due to take place on Sunday 29th June. Please email us for contact details if you are interested.

Please have a look at the upcoming events below and join us sometime if you can. All our Wildlife in Ascot events are free.
