The Council has been working hard to bring the Christmas celebration back to the village and can confirm that the lights on the lamp posts and new lights in the Cherry Trees will be switched on from 1st December 2023 until 6th January 2024.
Unfortunately, it has not been possible to bring back the Christmas Celebration to Chobham Road and we understand there will be disappointment that this year’s event on the Chobham Road will not be taking place. Over the last year, the Council has received representation asking if it would be willing to re-establish the Christmas Lights Switch-on Event on the Chobham Road (an annual event pre-pandemic). The Council agreed to investigate the feasibility of re-establishing this event.
As a result of a joint consultation with RBWM and the Highways Agency, it was established that more time would be needed to plan such a complex event being held on the junction of two major roads and will require a road closure and diversions to ensure the safety of the public. We are sorry to disappoint and will be looking with renewed energy for the possibilities for the event next year – including running it at Chobham Road.
Since the lights were added to the large fir tree at the recreation ground, a successful Christmas Tree Lights Switch On event has been held with the local school choir and last year expanded to include activities in the library. Although the event has been small, it was always well received and attended by local families.
Because the event on Chobham Road cannot take place in 2023, the event at the Recreation Ground will be expanded to bring some additional family favourites – including an array of seasonal activities such as sing along carols, Santa’s Grotto, festive food and drink and Christmas fun. The library will have storytelling and crafts and the new Curly Wurly Café will be providing seasonal treats and festive games will be held on the newly refurbished tennis courts.
We would love you to join us on Friday 8th December from 4pm to 7pm at Broomhall Recreation Ground – bring the family.

During the festive period every year, Sunningdale Parish Council provide and switch on the Christmas lights throughout the village centre along the A30 and on the big fir tree in Broomhall Park. The lights remain switched on until the twelfth night after Christmas.
The Parish Council hope you enjoy the lights and the added sparkle throughout the village during the dark nights and it encourages residents to consider using the local high street shops and restaurants for the Christmas celebrations.
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Sunningdale Parish Council Christmas event at Broomhall Park on Friday 25th November 2022. It was wonderful to see so many residents supporting the Year 5 and Year 6 choir from Holy Trinity Primary School, Sunningdale Library and Fieldhouse Coffee.

Don’t forget, bring your unwanted real Christmas tree minus the baubles to the Recreation Ground at Broomhall Lane after Christmas and we will recycle it for you.
