Walking isn’t just about getting from A to B – it’s a chance to improve your health in so many ways, embrace nature and explore your community, or connect with others.
And it’s free! Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, you don’t have to walk for hours. A brisk ten-minute daily walk can also do the job.
You could:
Walk to your local shops instead.
Walk to school or work, even if only part of the way.
Use the stairs instead of the lift.
Get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest.
Enjoy the lighter evenings with a stroll.
Take a lunchtime meander.
Try a walking meeting.
Go on a weekend adventure with loved ones.
To celebrate this year’s national campaign, on the right of this page you’ll find a range of resources, links and advice which you can read on here or download as PDFs or JPEGs:

Other local maps, routes and resources.

You can also share your favourite ‘walking adventures’ – routes and photos – on this page. We’d love to hear from you. Simply scroll down and add them to the section below.
‘Every journey begins with a single step,’ is a well known Chinese proverb. The same can also be said for the start of every adventure.
