Events to support wildlife in July

Here is a list of events coming up in July. They are all free and it would be great if you can join us. They include some surveys and conservation work (marked with **)  where we really need help as some of our regulars are unavailable.  Please email us for more information about any of these and let us know if you plan to come so we can let you know if surveys are cancelled if wet / too windy / cold.

Tuesday 4th July 2-3 pm Wildflower and pollinator survey at Ascot Racecourse

** Wednesday 5th July – 9 to 11 am Weeding and general maintenance on the pollinator patch at Carnation Hall – Dress for gardening with gloves. Meet in the car park at Chavey Down Rd, Winkfield Row, Bracknell RG42 7PA

Wednesday 5th July 9:15-10:45 pm Bat survey along Coombe Lane and round Tom Green’s Field

** Saturday 8th July – 9:30 am to 12:30 Conservation work at Allens Field –  we will be creating a dead hedge on the edge of the dog agility area. Meet in the car park off Liddell Way off Bouldish Farm Road South Ascot SL5 9UZ Dress for gardening work.

Wednesday 12th July 12:30 to 3:30 pm Ascot Heath primary school wildlife garden maintenance work – Rhododendron Walk, North Ascot SL5 8PN – please come along to help maintain this space so the children can  make full use of it and learn about the natural world. Meet at the school reception. Dress for gardening and bring gloves please. 

** Thursday 13th July 10 am – 12 o’clock Tree survey at Heatherwood

Friday 14th July until Sunday 6th August The Big Butterfly Count – Spend 15 minutes watching for and counting butterflies. More information here.

Monday 17th July 11-12 o’clock Wildflower and pollinator survey at Ascot Racecourse

** Tuesday 18th July 9-10:30 pm Bat survey at Broomhall

Saturday 22nd July 10:30 am start Dragonfly walk with Des Sussex, The Crown Estate Conservation and Biodiversity Manager in the Swinley Brick Pits area where there is no public access. No dogs please. Please email us to book your place and for details, numbers limited.

Tuesday 25th July 12 o’clock to 5 pm Silwood Park Bugs, Birds and Beast Day – Free event. particularly good for families with bug hunts and pond dipping. More information on this leaflet here.   Silwood Campus, Imperial College, Buckhurst Road,  SL5 7PY

** Wildlife in Ascot will have a table in the marquee and we are short of people so please email if you can help out for an hour or 2.

Tuesday 8th August 8:30-10 pm Bat survey – location tbd

Saturday 12th August 9:30 am to 12:30 Conservation work at Allens Field. This school holiday session will include wildflower identification and pollinator surveys. Meet in the car park off Liddell Way off Bouldish Farm Rd South Ascot SL5 9UZ Dress for gardening work.

Please enter the Wildlife Gardens Awards before the end of July. We would like many people to enter from our area to show we care about making space for nature in our gardens around here. It’s a self-assessment process. We can assure you that no one will invade your privacy and inspect your garden.
