Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead News Release

Communities to have their say on Berkshire’s blueprint for nature recovery

The Royal Borough is encouraging communities to have their say on proposals to protect biodiversity, reduce the impact of climate change and boost the benefits of nature as part of a consultation on the Berkshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy

This follows previous early engagement with communities, which helped shape the strategy – and now feedback from landowners and communities aims to support councils across Berkshire finalise the strategy to assist nature recovery across the county.

Residents will be able to leave their comments on the strategy and add pins to a Local Habitat Map for suggested nature recovery sites, from Monday 17 February to Monday 24 March 2025.

There will also be drop-in sessions in libraries across Berkshire for those requiring support to complete the survey. A session at Maidenhead library is taking place on Thursday 6 March from 4pm till 7pm.

Councillor Karen Davies, Cabinet member for Climate Change, Biodiversity and Windsor Town Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to have your say on Berkshire’s blueprint for nature recovery which will help protect and improve vital natural habitats for the benefit of wildlife, people and the environment we share.

“The process of shaping the strategy has been incredibly collaborative and inclusive throughout, so we’d now like to hear your views in the survey and receive as many suggestions as possible in our Local Habitat Map.”

Local Nature Recovery Strategies are a new and valuable tool for nature recovery across the country. Funded by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as part of a wider national nature recovery project, the blueprint for Berkshire’s nature recovery has been produced by The Royal Borough with the support of Bracknell, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Wokingham and Natural England.
